ADD SOME OF YOURS

Posted by not_me_yet on March 9, 2010 at 4:04 PM

Here are a few of my general rules and questions i ask myself to keep myself on track=AVOID BINGING. AVOID BECOMING FAT, UGLY, OUT OF CONTROL, AND IMPURE.

These are my healthier rules...i have other rules, but i dont want to post those because i dont think those are completely safe or healthy to post. I am definitely not a health expert or any expert at all...these are just things that have helped me.

1. What are you eating?

can it be healthier? (example: fruit instead of candy. something with 100 calories instead of 300 calories)

*ADDED BY Love Me To The Bones-

"How many calories are in that??"

Can you eat something with less or can you eat less of that food so that the calories are fewer...if you just want the taste of that food?

2. How much are you eating?

are your "eyes bigger than your stomach"...meaning do you get a huge serving of something thinking you are really hungry then you eat it all then later realize you ate too much?

*get a smaller portion than you think you are hungry for...if you are still hungry after the portion, you can always get more. But if you stuff yourself with too much food, you cant go back and eat less. ("Purging doesnt take away the fact that you gave in and lost control"...something i tell myself)

3. How fast are you eating?

if you dont take your time while you are eating, you dont fully appreciate  the goodness of the food. you dont savor the taste...also, you may end up eating too fast and end up feeling sick or worse...you may end up still feeling hungry since, your body takes a while to digest the food you eat so it doesnt know its full for a little while after you get done eating. if you eat too fast, you dont give your body very much time to digest (realize its full) before you go get another serving offood...then you eat that quickly too.

this cycle may continue until finally you feel full. by the time all that food digests you willbe left feeling super stuffed and blah.

*eat as slow as your hunger will let you. try to pay attention to the bites you are taking.try to make sure you taste each bite.

*taking a drink of your drink between bites helps slow the process

hehe. basically dont just be a vacuum at the table.(when you must eat, try to enjoy it...you will feel bad enough later)

4. When are you eating?

are you eating at a set time so your body can be on a regular schedule so it knows about the times you should be hungry and any time not around those set times should be "unhungry" times....this way you will know when you're eating for other reasons instead of being hungry....which is never a good habit to start.

5. Why are you eating?

bored? sad, watching a movie/tv, stressed, just because its there

**ADDED BY porcelain-

"could I be doing something more productive than eating ?"

*only eat when you are HUNGRY...and the only way you know when you should be hungry goes along with my other rule...set specific "hungry times" that  way you know you are hungry. Get in the habit of eating at those times and hunger will get programmed to those times.

Feel free to post any of your major personal rules/ questions you follow...

Good one. :)
that can go under rule 5 since it kinda flows with the
why are you eating?
bored=
What could you be doing instead of eating?
*do something like homework, walk, do art, write, listen to music, go somewhere, etc.*

hehe. yeah. thats one of the questions i ask. im one of those "afraid of cals" people. lol.

i think
How many calories are in it would be a sub question in the category of
What are you eating? *can it be healthier?...fruit instead of candy. How many calories are in it? ex. 100 calories instead of 500.

I guess a question that goes after/along with this calorie question is...Are you going to be able to burn off these calories?
In the big picture the major question i should add....

WILL IT BE WORTH IT?

Thank you. i like them too. they are pretty obvious, but organizing them kinda helps the thought process. sorta steps you can go through....or prolly already do.

I ask myself a lot "is it too late to eat?"

I don't like eating after 7pm because I usually go to bed around 10. Your metabolism starts to slow down slightly for the night about 2 hours before the time you normally go to sleep each night, so I try to put a cushion between that slow down time and the last time I eat for the day.

Wow. I love this advice!
I agree with all of it. What I try to do is keep a Food Diary, but I just lack so much
will-power. What I need is some serious motivation.
