PrettyThin

I sent an email out today to everyone who purchased the First Edition Unity Bracelets. If you did not get an email from me, please check your Spam folder; it might be in there. What this means is that I can not start work on the Second Edition Unity Bracelets. I think I get an average of two or three emails a day about this, so maybe this needs to be a more ongoing thing.

I have found material for a new bracelet, but I don't think the design is appropriate for a Unity Bracelet. People like to wear them - I wear mine - and the one I am working on has a P and a T in the center of it in platinum (not real platinum). So I will start making a PrettyThin Bracelet starting next week and once I have a few made, I'll start advertising it here.

That still leaves room for the Second Edition Unity Bracelet. I am giving a discount to those who purchased the first one, but will make more than 100 in this edition. I am not sure what that number should be, but I will make it a limited number for two reasons - (1) I can carry around only a certain amount of material, and (2) I think it's nice to have different editions of the bracelets so that every one in an edition is the same, but every edition becomes something new.

Diet Section on this site
I am going to make a link on the left that reads Diet. The point is to direct those who do not have an ED but come onto PT for diet tips to see it and click it. The first paragraph will provide them information about what PrettyThin is all about, and that it is NOT a diet site. It is ; yup, I'm going to say it - a pro-ana site. It's just not what the traditional pro-ana site is all about. In the words of my greatest adviser right now, it is a let-and-let-live community for those with an ED. In that section we will outline different kinds of diets, and possibly put a section so that people can comment on every page, maybe even rank the pages and diets. If this is a terrible idea, please let me know. I'm just hoping it solves some problems.

Well, this has been an interesting few days to say the least, but the worst is over. The forums have now been fixed, and I hope I'm not being premature in saying so. Fingers crossed. I hate the fact that we lost so much history, but it's nice to be concerned with the now and focused on the future.

There have been a few rumors going around which people have brought to my attention through personal messages. First, no, PrettyThin is not going to advertise itself. I'm not sure where this came from, but it's not true. I don't know what the point of something like that would be. PT is not a business - PT is not a game or a joke or some pass-time - it's a serious community of support. Anything that is done will be to that end.

Another rumor is that PT is closing its doors. Not so long as I'm involved. I think PrettyThin does a lot of good, and the hope is to allow it to do more good. I get many emails a day from people confronting me about running this site. Many make very good and sound arguments about why this site is doing harm. In a way, I can see how it can do a lot of harm. But what I have come to realize is not simply that PrettyThin is a place where people come to get support, but it is also a place where people come to offer it. PT is what you make it. PT can have a very positive impact on the lives of every single member if that is the community we create. Fortunately, that is exactly what you have created for yourselves, and I commend you for it.

Last, PrettyThin Unity Bracelets. I know several people have not received their yet. I am getting emails from people who have gotten them and can confirm that they do get delivered to the United States, Canada, England, Sweden, France, Australia, and New Zealand. I will send an email out at the end of the day on Wednesday in hopes that giving it a little more time will give everyone a chance to get it. If you have not gotten it, we will figure out what to do. I have everyone numbered in the order of purchase, so we can recreate the card with your number on it and make a new bracelet if needed. Let's hope we don't have to.

I am also putting together new sections for pictures. If you have a picture you wish to submit to the website, please send it to pretty.thin@yahoo.com | if you wish to add a PrettyThin watermark to it or somehow decorate it, please do so. Otherwise, I will edit it before putting it on the website.

October 14, 2010 (mid-day update)
I have gotten as many emails from people asking where the thinspo has gone as people asking me to remove it. It's a fine line, but I am starting to put it back up slowly; maybe a page every few days? Those who want can click to it, and those who do not, well, won't? Please let me know what's out of line, what is liked, and what is missing the point. I'm putting things up that other members have emailed me, and sorting through several hundred images right now. I won't be putting up any extreme thinspo (whatever that really means - I'm using my own definition for this one).

I've been adding new stories to the site, and will add one or two more a day for a little while. Any feedback as to how these are received would be awesome. I just want to make sure I am adding something that benefits the community and anyone else who may stumble upon this site.

All 100 First Edition Unity Bracelets were sent out, and I have to apologize to those who purchased them for not having contacted you yet. Expect an email in the next hour. My apologies for the delay.

A have been getting emails daily about purchasing bracelets, and I didn't want to start making the second edition yet, mostly as gratitude to those who purchased the first edition so quickly. I also want to make sure I find the right string and beads (or whatever) for the next edition. I actually came across something yesterday which I might buy and start making the next set, which will be ready in December. Stay posted. Should I create a twitter account and send notices of these things through there? There may also be a pre-sale on this one, because it is a lot easier organizing making, packaging, and sending these in smaller batches rather than 100 at a time. If a pre-sale happens, it will start at the end of this month or the beginning of November.

PrettyThin will also be going non-profit at the beginning of 2011. The goal will be to offer scholarships to those entering a health profession (maybe we won't limit it to a major but limit it to members?) and to try to do more for the community. Thank you for supporting PT and one another. I'm truly hope this enhances the lives of every one of us greatly.

I have received over fifty entries for the unity bracelet give-away, and will put all the names in a coffee tin later today and randomly select the five winners. Every story, every picture, and every effort means so much to the community, and I want to thank you all for sharing.

I am going to spend my efforts now on two sections:

- Art and Photography - member submitted art and photography (not thinspo)

- Member stories
