Tips on Privacy - Introduction

Many people are new to using online communities, and many are not aware of the potential dangers of being involved in ANY online community. It is extremely important to me that you are informed of the dangers and that you take the proper precautions for your own safety.

It is also important that you understand the possible use cases of anything that you contribute to the website so that you can use your best judgement BFEORE posting any content on PrettyThin.

If you have already posted content and are concerned about the your privacy and wish to make a change to that content or to your membership, please review the section on Using PrettyThin for more information.

Privacy - Your Membership

People will only know what you tell them. As a member of PrettyThin, your contribution to this website is information. A combinatino of information that you post in different parts of the site can lead to your identification if you are not careful. Sharing information with any one member can lead to your information being passed onto other members. Do not share ANY personal information with ANYONE unless you are comfortable that it may fall into the hands of other members.

When chosing your display name, do not put any indicators to your real name. For example, PrettyThin [*-_Zander_-*] would be an obvious giveaway that my name is Zander.

Be careful when telling people where you're from. Knowing my first name and that I live in New Zealand would be an easy way for someone to start snooping around Facebook or MySpace looking for me.

In the Forums - Sharing Information

It is not an uncommon thing to read a post where someone is looking for an MSN buddy or a txt buddy. If anyone has your MSN, then they may also have your email. If they have your email, then they know your Facebook (or other social network) profile. If they know that, then how safe do you feel if it's in the hands of a creeper?

You ahve PrettyThin to send private messages, discuss things in the forums, write and comment in the blog, upload pictures and comment in the galleries, be in the chatroom - what else do you need? Be careful. Don't share personal information.

Anything you Add to this Website

This is extremely important for you to know and understand.

Anything that you add to PrettyThin can be viewed by the public. There are sections of this site that are for Members Only, but it doesn't take much for someone to become a member. You know this by having become a member.

Do not post ANY content on PrettyThin if you do not want it seen by others. PrettyThin holds the rights to distribute anything you post on the website. This right is how we display the content on the website to begin with. But this right extends to being able to use it in whatever manner that I or PrettyThin.com sees appropriate.

If you do not feel comfortable with myself, Zander (owner and operator of PrettyThin) or PrettyThin in any way, please do not contribute to the website.

You can determine the intentions of myself and/or PrettyThin by being an observer of the website for a term prior to being a contributor, until you have made a determination.
